Children of Fire Victims in Kamal Muara Need School Equipment

These children of fire victims desperately need school uniforms, books, bags, and stationery

Fire incident that hit 250 houses in RT 01/07 Kamal Muara Urban Village, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, Wednesday (6/25) morning, makes 1,500 fire victims, who are currently taking refuge in the Kamal Muara Stadium, Pesing Koneng, Kedoya Utara Urban Village, Kebon Jeruk Sub-District, West Jakarta, very much hoping for aid in form of school equipment for their children.

Fire in Gandaria Selatan, 35 Families Lost Their Homes

Of the 1,500 victims, 234 out of them are students of Elementary School (SD) until Senior High School (SMA). They failed to evacuate their valuables comprising books, school uniforms, stationery, etc, when fire happened. 

Head of Kamal Muara Urban Village, Royto Harahap explained 234 students consist of 167 SD students, 47 SMP students, and 20 SMA students. Thus far, they do not undergo the teaching and learning activities in school due to day off approaching Ramadan. "The children need school uniforms, books, bags, and stationery," he explained, Thursday (6/26).

He continued, there are also 97 babies in desperate need of baby items, such as medicine, baby milk, milk bottles, clothes, blankets, baby food, baby oil, and medicine. Moreover, they are currently living with the other refugees and are very susceptible to disease.

Meanwhile, Head of North Jakarta Social Sub-Department, Ika Lestari explained his sub-department will provide fire victim needs in Kamal Muara, including children. "We'll provide school uniforms, bags, and books," she explained.

Previously, North Jakarta Social Sub-Department has set up refugee tents in such area, including tents for feeding the baby. In addition, she also has set up ​​a public kitchen and prepared packaged rice meal several hours after the fire broke out and deployed 50 volunteers of the Disaster Response Team.
